Description

Learn how to make healthy homemade jello using natural juice, unflavored beef gelatin, and optional natural sweeteners. This easy recipe creates a delicious, dye-free gelatin treat that's perfect for kids and adults, featuring a simple stovetop method and a smooth, enjoyable texture.

Ingredients

Scale

Jello Ingredients

  • 4 cups juice (use your favorite natural juice such as grape, apple, or orange)
  • 2 Tablespoons unflavored beef gelatin (such as Vital Proteins or Great Lakes; do NOT substitute collagen or protein powder)
  • 2 Tablespoons honey, agave, or cane sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bloom the Gelatin: Pour 1/2 cup of the juice into a liquid measuring cup or small bowl. Sprinkle the gelatin powder evenly over the juice and stir gently to combine. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to thicken and become grainy.
  2. Heat the Remaining Juice: While the gelatin is blooming, pour the remaining 3 1/2 cups of juice into a medium saucepan. Heat it over medium-high heat until the juice is very hot and steaming but not boiling.
  3. Melt the Bloomed Gelatin: Add the honey or other sweetener if using, along with the bloomed gelatin to the hot juice. Stir constantly until the gelatin and sweetener are completely dissolved. This step is crucial to get a smooth texture.
  4. Set the Jello: Pour the gelatin mixture into a 2-quart ceramic pan or heatproof containers (such as 8x8, 9x9, or 11x7 inch pans). Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 to 4 hours, or until fully set.
  5. Serve and Store: Once set, serve the jello chilled. Store leftovers in the refrigerator and consume within 4 to 5 days for best texture and flavor, although it can last up to 7 to 10 days without spoiling.

Notes

  • Use natural juices without added sugars or artificial colors for a healthier treat.
  • Unflavored beef gelatin is essential; do not substitute with collagen or protein powders as they have different properties.
  • For a vegan alternative, consider using agar agar instead, but expect a different texture.
  • You can adjust sweetness with honey, agave, or cane sugar according to your taste or omit sweetener entirely for a fully natural flavor.
  • This recipe is dairy-free, gluten-free, and paleo approved.
  • Ensure the gelatin is fully dissolved to avoid lumps and uneven texture.
  • Use heatproof glass or ceramic containers for setting jello safely.
