Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1 and 1/2 cups (188g) all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (8 Tbsp; 113g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Additional
- 1/2 cup (80g) sprinkles, plus more for topping
Instructions
- Mix Dry Ingredients: Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a medium bowl and set aside for later use.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, use a hand mixer or stand mixer with paddle attachment to beat the softened butter and granulated sugar on medium-high speed until fluffy and creamed, about 1 minute.
- Add Egg and Vanilla: Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat on high speed until fully combined, about 1 minute. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl and beat again to ensure thorough mixing.
- Combine Ingredients: Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix on low speed until just combined. Then beat in 1/2 cup sprinkles. The dough will be thick and sticky.
- Shape Dough Balls: Scoop large sections of dough, about 2 tablespoons each, and roll into balls. For extra sprinkle decoration, lightly dip the tops of the dough balls into additional sprinkles. Place them on a lined baking sheet or plate.
- Chill Dough: Cover and refrigerate the cookie dough balls for at least 2 hours, and up to 4 days, to firm up before baking.
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
- Bake Cookies: Arrange chilled dough balls 3 inches apart on the baking sheets. Bake for 12 to 13 minutes until lightly browned on the sides and centers appear soft.
- Cool Cookies: Remove from oven and let cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Store Cookies: Keep cookies fresh covered at room temperature for up to 1 week.
Notes
- Chilling the dough is essential for soft, chewy texture and helps prevent spreading during baking.
- For extra festive appearance, dip cookie tops in additional sprinkles before baking.
- Use room temperature egg and butter for easier mixing and better texture.
- If you don’t have sprinkles, colored sugar crystals or mini chocolate chips can be fun alternatives.
- Cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or frozen for longer storage.
